Location

Opa
water works is situated at OPA. Khandepar
of Ponda Taluka, district North Goa,
and is about 37 kms. from the capital
city Panaji. Major treatment plants along
with the clear water reservoirs of Opa
water works are located at hillock of
CUrti which is at 160 RL and about 2
kms. from Opa. The high altitude location
of reservoirs at Curti enables the supply
of water by gravity to almost 95% of
service area i.e. Talukas of Ponda and
Tiswadi which includes the cities of
Panaji and Ponda.

Weir

The Opa weir was
constructed in 1972 to raise the water
level and also as storage reservoir during
lean period from March to June. The weir
height is 2.42 mtrs. with a total length
of about 82 mtrs. across the river.

Opa water works consist of four water
treatment plants which are classified as
per their capacity viz. 8 MLD plant, 12
MLD plant, 54 MLD plant and 40 MLD plant. |

Opa water works is the first water treatment
plant of Goa. Its operation started during
Portugues regime in 1957. The consultancy
of Indian great Civil Engineer late Shri
Vishweshwaraya was involved in for designing
this prestigious project. |
